About
Kawa Tamu Estates is a 20-acre regenerative Fine Robusta coffee farm in the Rwenzori foothills of Kyenjojo District, Western Uganda, founded in 2025.
We started Kawa Tamu after 15 years of advising smallholder coffee programs across Uganda — work that surfaced a real gap: the difference between recommending sustainable practices and actually running a farm under the same constraints smallholders face. Kawa Tamu is where we close that gap directly, developing and testing production practices ourselves before recommending them to anyone else.
A quarter of our land is dedicated to applied agroforestry research — shade system design, spacing and density trials, fertilizer and soil health work — conducted in partnership with Coffee Minds Hub (CQI-trained quality assessment, SCAA cupping, defect-to-practice reporting) under a signed MOU. We report findings honestly, including inconclusive or negative results, because that's what a credible research program requires.
We are building Kawa Tamu as an EUDR-compliant, investor-ready operation, with a clear path to transparent pricing, phased production scale-up, and long-term offtake relationships with EU specialty roasters. Our approach to growth is deliberately staged: we'd rather show real progress at a smaller scale than overstate readiness.
